Meet the Fitness Instructors

Becky Byland
I am a passionate and results‑driven fitness instructor dedicated to empowering individuals of all levels to move better, feel stronger and live a bit healthier.
After discovering the transformative power of movement in my own life during a New Year’s challenge at MCC in 2016, I began teaching exercise classes, which led to earning my certification as a group fitness instructor in 2023. My specialties include circuit training and Pilates.
My approach blends science‑backed exercise design with motivation and adaptability. I believe in meeting clients where they are, whether they’re new to fitness or seasoned athletes, and creating workouts that are effective and enjoyable.
When I’m not at MCC, you’ll find me with family, in the garden, cooking, reading, listening to music or enjoying outdoor activities. My philosophy is that fitness is more than just exercise, it’s a lifestyle, a mindset, and a way to become the best version of oneself.
I’d love to help you reach your goals, whether you’re just starting out or ready to push to the next level. Let’s move together.

Sheri Christensen
Hello! My name is Sheri Christensen and I grew up in Maryville…after college I moved to Lee’s Summit, MO for 20 years and just recently moved back about 3 years ago. I received my Degree at Northwest in Secondary Physical Education and Health. However, their was not a Physical Education teaching job available so I spent the next 10 years utilizing my Health Degree. I then became certified in Personal Training, Aerobics, Water Aerobics, Johnny G Spinning and a Yoga Instructor.
Currently and for the last 15 years+ I have been a Full-Time Licensed Realtor in MO & KS. I have a true PASSION for both Real Estate and Fitness.. Both make me feel AMAZING inside and out helping people!
Also, I am a part of the Backyard Vine & Wine Family here in town-BEST Wine & Slushees around-Come See Us!
Thank-you for allowing me to be a part of the Yoga Classes here and I look forward to getting to know YOU!
I am married to Stan of 26+ years. Our Son Cole is 12, a Soccer Player and the Center of our World.

Karen Pfost
I have been teaching Pilates since 2010. Pilates is all about strengthening the core while improving strength, flexibility and balance. I love the class and the people who come and we always have a lot of fun! I have taught senior exercise as well as chair exercise classes. I enjoy taking certification classes and learning new ways to use MCC equipment and every day objects for exercising. I am married to Brock and have two grown daughters, Lizz and Jess. I love to travel, do things with friends, read, sew and craft. The main organizations where I find myself volunteering are P.E.O., Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County and the Ministry Center. Come to Pilates on Thursdays at 9…you’ll be glad you did!

Wendy Deering-Poynter
I've taught yoga for three years and enjoy the benefits I experience in body, mind and spirit. Yoga significantly lowers my stress and increases my sense of well being--my hope as well for those who attend my classes. I am a spiritual director, pastor and florist and lead occasional art and spirituality workshops. Some of my favorites are chocolate, sunshine and dancing in the kitchen. I'm married with two teenage kids and a dog.

Victoria Vollstedt
I am a special education teacher who has a passion for overall healthy living and fitness! I also enjoy being outdoors and being active with my daughter and husband. Since high school I have worked in a gym, started teaching fitness classes in college and the last 6 years at the community center, and now I am an ACE certified group fitness instructor! I teach total body circuit classes, HIIT, spin, and a stadium class in the spring/summer months. Come try something new and join us for a great total body workout!

Cindy Lemar
I received both under graduate and graduate degrees from NWMSU and taught at Nodaway-Holt for 31 years before retiring in 2016. I joined the New Year’s Challenge in January 2017 and consider myself a member of the huge family at the Rec. Due to some arm twisting by Jacque Oglesby and Stacy Bundridge, I began subbing in 2018. I currently teach Fitness Fusion and Senior Circuit classes. I also sub for toning! My husband, Scott, and I live south of Graham and farm there. We have three children, three grandchildren, and love to camp, boat, and travel.

Jacque Oglesby
Hi! I'm Jacque O and have been teaching fitness classes at MPR since 2003.
I am married (Terry) and we have 4 adult kids, getting ready for grandbabies #2 & 3!
You can find me at MPR almost every morning! If not teaching class, I'm playing pickle ball!. When I'm not at MPR, I'm at home snuggling with my 4 pound tea-cup yorkie, Lexie Renae. Terry and I live in town and enjoy sitting on our patio watching the golfers, we like playing disc golf, love riding motorcycles and we have recently purchased an RV to go adventuring in! Let the good times roll!
My advice is to try EVERYTHING that MPR offers - that way you find something that you like to do and will keep coming back to get the best version of you!
Stay healthy!

Nikki Hackett
I have worked at Northwest Missouri State University for around 20 years, have four kids (three adults and an 11 year old), a black lab, a Pomeranian and very fat cat.
I have been taking classes at the community center for years and started subbing about six years ago (thanks Erika Jeter), and now teach a variety of classes including spin, step, kickboxing and HIIT.
The Maryville Community Center offers so much variety, come try out a class!

Kallyn Carl
Hey there, I'm Kallyn! Over the years you've probably seen me at the MCC working child watch or at the front desk. I love working here because of all the amazing people I get to see there! I just started teaching spin class, and I love it because it makes cardio FUN! In my free time you can catch me walking my cute dog Bruno or taking photos! Hope to see you at the MCC!

Ashley Barber
I received my NETA personal training certification in 2019 and have enjoyed teaching spinning classes since 2016. Recently, I have added Water Aerobics to the list of classes I teach and love working out in the water! I also teach a total body fitness fusion class. My husband Adam and I are proud Maryville residents and love spending time with our children, Henry, Lucy, and Ruby. Some of my other hobbies include: reading, singing, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

Heidi Komorech
Chris and I moved our family here in 2009, and we have so enjoyed raising our children in Maryville. We are now in the time of life when we’re launching them into adulthood. I teach 6th grade at Nodaway-Holt, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to also lead yoga sessions from time to time. I find that practicing the yoga movements that build strength, flexibility and balance in the body also bring me more strength, flexibility and balance in my mind and daily life as well.

Regan Tripp
Hello, I'm Regan! I'm a registered dietitian, certified diabetes care and education specialist, and certified personal trainer! I have a passion for healthy living, exercise, and nutrition. I hold a degree in food science and dietetics along with a masters degree in allied health and exercise science. Outside of teaching spin and strength classes, I enjoy being outdoors with my husband, daughter, and our 2 dogs.

The Maryville Community Center has a wide variety of classes with passionate instructors. We hope to see you in one of our classes!
